Capitol Reef NP Suburbs - Bentonite Hills

Exploring the Bentonite Hills: A Journey Through Mars

Our adventure began with a scenic drive along Highway 24, heading toward the Bentonite Hills in Utah. Located just east of Capitol Reef National Park and a short distance west of Hanksville, these hills are renowned for their vibrant, otherworldly colors that resemble the Martian landscape.

Before reaching our destination, we decided to take a break and stumbled upon an unexpected museum along the highway.  Nora and Scout, our ever-curious companions, were eager to explore.  We took a moment to relax & meditate on the mysteries of the universe.

Continuing our journey, we approached the Bentonite Hills. However, our excitement was short-lived. A river crossing blocked our path, preventing us from accessing the area directly.  Not to worry, we will return in a lighter vehicle soon.

Determined not to miss out, we turned to our trusty drone. With a few taps, Dave captured stunning aerial shots of the hills' vibrant colors and unique formations. While the drone provided a bird's-eye view, it couldn't replicate the immersive experience of standing amidst the hills.

Reflecting on our journey, we realized that some adventures require more than just a vehicle; they demand the right kind of vehicle. For those planning to visit the Bentonite Hills, a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle is essential to navigate the rugged terrain and river crossings.

Without it, you might yourself admiring the view from afar, as we did.

Oh and sometimes you might see images like this but understand these are greatly enhanced.....

Moral of the Story: When venturing into the wild, ensure your vehicle is as adventurous as you are and don't believe everything you see online!

With Love,

The Team
