Capitol Reef NP Suburbs - Moonscape Overlook

Capitol Reef NP Suburbs - Moonscape Overlook

Exploring Capitol Reef's suburbs. An alien dog-friendly backyard adventure!  Capitol Reef isn't just a national park, it's the gateway to another planet!
Everything around it is pure magic, and the drive alone is worth the trip. Hop on Utah Highway 24 East, and for miles, you'll feel like you've left earth behind. Towering hoodoos, deep canyons, and wild rock formations paint a landscape so surreal!

Our first stop was like a moonwalk... with dogs! We kicked off the day at Moonscape Overlook, a hidden gem that feels like stepping onto another planet. Located near Hanksville, it's accessible via a rough dirt road, high clearance is recommended, but the reward is out of this world!

The view? Absolutely unreal. INSANE. Rolling gray ridges, deep craters, and a horizon so vast it makes you question reality. We set up our cameras, drone in the sky, trying to capture the magic, the silence...The vibes? Pure sci-fi movie set!

Scout and Nora? Not impressed. No trees, no grass, no squirrels. They took one look at the barren landscape and made a unanimous decision: van life was better.  While we roamed around capturing photos and flying the drone, they stayed curled up in their cozy spot, totally uninterested in our space expedition.

How to get there:
  1. Take Highway 24 east towards Hanksville
  2. Turn north onto Factory Butte Road
  3. Continue for 5.6 miles
  4. Turn right onto Coal Mine Road
  5. Continue on Skyline View Road for 1 mile to the lookout

We hopped back on the road, chasing the next adventure - hopefully one with more excitement for Scout and Nora.  Stay tuned, who knows what wild, weird and breathtaking stop is next!

 With Love,

The Team
