Exploring Capitol Reef: Lost in an otherworldly experience!

Some days begin with coffee, others start with a conversation with a horse.  As we geared up for an adventure in Capitol Reef, we met a hilarious, friendly horse who seemed just as excited about the day as we were. Scout, always the social one, had a long chat with him, while Nora, unimpressed, opted to chase a squirrel instead. Lesson of the day? A funny friend can set the tone for a fantastic day!

Petroglyphs & Paws

Our next stop was a quick and easy hike to check out the Capitol Reef petroglyphs. Were they the best we've ever seen? Not quite. But if you're in the area, it's worth the visit: short, accessible, and dog-friendly!

Then it was off to Hickman Bridge Trail: A Portal to Another World.  It is a 1,7 mile long trail with a 416 ft elevation gain.

This hike? Absolutely worth it. Since it's not dog-friendly, we had to leave Scout and Nora behind (sorry, pups!), but stepping onto the trail felt like entering another planet. The further we climbed, the more bizarre and beautiful the landscape became. Towering rock formations, swirling colors, alien-like shapes.

Every turn revealed something out of a sci-fi movie. And at the top? Hickman Bridge stood like a massive gateway to another world. The natural bridge is impressive enough, but what really got us were the countless details in the rocks. Strange faces, alien-like patterns, and landscapes that made us feel like explorers on Mars.

Wholes in the Wall? Yes, Please!

On our way out, we made a random stop at an incredible rock wall filled with strange holes and pockets-the perfect playground for both us and the dogs. Scout and Nora had a blast exploring, sniffing, and hopping in and out of the formations.

To wrap the day, we enjoyed a stunning sunset at Panorama Point, then camp for free just outside the park-epic views all night long!

Capitol Reef? A little underrated, a lot of fun, and definitely a place where nature flexes its weird, wonderful creativity. Today was a reminder to embrace the unexpected. To always say yes to a new adventure and find joy in every moment!

Stay tuned... next week, we're taking you beyond the park into the suburbs of Capitol Reef-where the adventure is totally dog-friendly! Get ready to be amazed!
